Hitting the open road in a motorhome is a dream that many Americans have. You can bring everything you want with you, you can see some truly memorable places in America, and it can be a more inexpensive travel option in contrast to flying and staying in hotels.

But if you’re at a lost at the best places for you to go, here are the top five vacation ideas to do in your RV this summer:

Ultimately, if these 5 ideas don’t appeal to you, just search for cities and towns that have loads of activities. For example, we found a great list of things to do in Cape May, NJ and there are multiple RV parks in the area.

Key West, Florida

Florida is not often thought of as being an RV destination, but the truth is it has multiple RV parks at some truly scenic locations. One such location is Key West, which has a large RV campground and is right on the beach where you can lounge, fish, swim, or snorkel.

Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

Another very popular RV destination is the iconic Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. The Horse Thief Campground and RV resort in particular has a number of luxurious amenities, including a nice picnic area, a playground, bathhouse, pool, and a general store. In addition to checking out Mount Rushmore itself (which you absolutely should do), you can also explore the Jewel Cave and hike or bike up the trails in the Black Hills National Forest.

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

Crater Lake National Park attracts thousands of visitors each year. The lake is nearly two thousand feet deep and is one of the deepest lakes in the entire world. There are two RV parks located in the area: the Big Pines RV Park and the Crater Lake RV Park. Both are very popular with lots of amenities. In addition to visiting the lake itself, you can also go hiking, mountain biking, fishing, or swimming. Consider this the perfect getaway for you and your partner; bonding amidst nature never looked better! If you do plan a date weekend with your (potential) significant other to this scenic park, then you might want to get some tips on what to wear on a hiking date to make it both comfortable and enjoyable.

Columbia River, Oregon

The Columbia River extends for over twelve hundred miles through Oregon, Washington, and into Canada. There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds along the river, but one of the most notable is the Columbia River National Scenic Recreation Area, which has its own RV park and camping sites. Additional RV parks with some truly majestic views of nature include Rufus RV Park, and the Columbia River RV park as well.

Redwood National and State Parks, California

There are numerous national and state parks located in the Redwood forest in northern California, and any of them are viable options to visit. In the area, you’ll be able to explore the forest and also drive or walk down to the beach along the Pacific Ocean. The trees in Redwood are the tallest on Earth, and are home to thousands of different species of flora and fauna.
