Four Ways to Avoid Gaining Weight While Working in the Office

Sitting at a desk may sound like a relaxing way to spend your work day, but it can actually wreak havoc on your health. It isn’t uncommon for office workers to slowly gain weight throughout the years they spend sitting at a computer.

Appetite suppressants are one way you can reduce what you eat so you don’t gain weight, but there are many more ways you can avoid gaining weight while working in the office.

Plan and Pack Your Lunch

Many people drive through and pick up something from a fast food restaurant for lunch. Even worse is when people make a pit stop by the vending machine. And if you think you’re making a healthy fast food choice, chances are, you’re not

Fast food has tons of calories. Even Chipotle, which is known for its whole ingredients, can have enough calories for an entire day’s worth of meals.

If you want to keep your weight in check, there’s no question that you have to plan and pack your own lunch each and every day.

Get a Little Exercise

Sitting can be really bad for your body when you do it all day, every day. It’s important that you get up and move a little whenever you can.

Fortunately, squeezing in a little exercise and burning a few calories throughout your day isn’t quite as hard as it sounds.

  • Take a quick walk on your break
  • Shrug your shoulders by raising them towards your ears and holding them for a few seconds
  • Do a few squats while you go through your emails
  • Take the stairs whenever traveling to another floor
  • Squeeze your bottom and hold for five to ten seconds

Be Picky About Office Treats

It seems there’s always a reason to celebrate in the office. Whether it’s a birthday, a holiday, or just because, people love to bring cookies, cupcakes, bagels, and more.

In a perfect world you would avoid all the extras, but you deserve to treat yourself every now and then!

Only take a small portion of homemade treats. Not only are they healthier than processed foods, but you’ll avoid offending the person who put their blood, sweat, and tears into making something special for their coworkers.

Never Eat at Your Desk

It never seems like there are enough hours in the day. In order to save a little time, many people spend their lunch at their desk. That’s absolutely terrible for your health.

When you eat at your desk, you sit for longer and you’re more likely to make poor food choices. You even eat more!

Make it a point to never eat at your desk. Whether it’s a quick snack or lunch, make time to sit at a table and you’ll make more mindful choices.

Don’t resign to the fact that you’re doomed to gain weight just because you work at a desk. With these tips, you can shave calories from your diet and keep the needle on the scale from going up.
